Misconception - Hard Work is Hard

Coach Ross

It’s exhilarating for an aspiring athlete to fantasize about the future - playing in front of thousands of adoring fans, leading your favorite childhood team to a championship and making enough money to support multiple generations of family. It’s less enjoyable to think about the treacherous road it will take to accomplish those lofty goals. The hard work, dedication and sacrifice one must endure in order to make those dreams a reality.

As the saying goes, “Hard work is hard.” But, does it have to be? We’re talking about training for a sport here - not laying brick, working as a ranch hand or pulling chain. If an individual feels the desire to dedicate themselves to a sport, they should enjoy the journey - even the training.

Look at Steph Curry’s pregame warm-up routine. Sure, he's on the clock, but do you think that feels like work to him? Make no mistake, his job entails great sacrifice - endless travel, dietary restrictions and months away from his family. I’m willing to bet he’s like the rest of us, that there are days when he would rather be with his family than go to work. However, when he tightens those laces and sets foot onto the court, the same joy that filled his heart when he shot baskets as a little kid resurfaces.

Steph Curry, point guard for the Golden State Warriors epitomizes what it means to play a sport with complete and utter joy.The first step every great athlete takes is a common one - developing a love for the game. When that happens, the hard work that is required to develop elite skills doesn’t feel like hard work, it’s enjoyable - because it brings joy to a respective life.

Aside from being a state of the art training tool, one of the great things about MaxBP Reaction Training is that it is user friendly and convenient. Baseball players, softball players, and other athletes who prides themselves on tracking, catching or hitting a moving object are aware of the frustration involved when it comes to getting their daily reps in. It's annoying waiting for a training partner. It's irritating when Mother Nature doesn't cooperate. It's deflating when you have to spend all that time shagging balls.

MaxBP has taken all of these common training issues into consideration, in order to provide athletes with a more enjoyable training experience. If you have a training partner - great, but it's not necessary. If you live in a part of the country where the sun shines year round - awesome. If you don't, take your training indoors with MaxBP's small ball wiffle balls, all you need is 15-20 feet. Tired of spending all that time shagging balls? You'll cut that time down considerably with MaxBP, our balls only travel 60-80 feet, compared to hard balls that travel hundreds of feet.

Hard work doesn’t have to be hard. The alternative quote, the yin to this yang would be, “Find something you love to do and you’ll never work a day in your life.” Will there be challenges along the way? Absolutely. Will there be days you don’t want to train? You bet. There may even be times when you want to quit altogether. During the dire times, try to recall that first step - the genuine love you felt for the game as a little kid and the joy that it brought to your life.
