A great drill to teach a hitter patience at the plate is the Rear Soft Toss Drill. This is great training to help a player “let the ball come to them.”
A trained player should be able to take the outside pitch and drive it to the opposite field. A great way to develop this skill is through soft toss training.
In this drill a hitter should attempt to foul off every pitch. This is a unique exercise to gain comfort with two strikes.
Practice soft toss from an angle out in front of the plate. Hitters can focus on hitting the ball from gap to gap, depending on the location of the pitch.
The objective of this drill is to swing at everything. However, it's key that the hitter maintains a strong base and stays balanced.
The sooner a hitter becomes comfortable hitting pitches at high speeds - the better! Don’t be afraid of a little gas, even if you can’t hit it.
A pitcher's objective is to get hitter's out. The most effective way to do this is to disrupt an opponents timing at the plate.
