Doug “Ostey” Osterholt
Advisory Board Member, Engineer
Nickname: Ostey (oh stee)
Favorite player: Johnny BenchBio: Doug is an engineer by day, athlete by night, and brewer on the side. Growing up, baseball was his sport of choice and was one of the best defensive catchers in Ohio during high school, obtaining all-state honors as a senior and 4-year varsity letterman. When it came time to go to college, he chose the academic route instead of the athletic route and eventually obtained a master’s of science in mechanical engineering from the University of Cincinnati focusing on structural dynamics and experimental testing. Moving from Ohio to San Diego in 2000, Doug met MaxBP founders Neil McConnell and Brian Greene where they ended up as teammates in the men’s adult baseball league (MSBL/MABL). Lifelong friendships ensued and today Doug is providing his engineering expertise and baseball passion to MaxBP.

Neil McConnell
MaxBP Founder, lifelong hitting enthusiast, from a young age Neil’s favorite activity was hitting a ball with a bat, in just about any form, wiffle ball, stick ball, baseball, softball. The feeling one gets when hitting a ball squarely, standing on second after crushing a gapper and at a loss for what pitch was hit, being in the moment where instinct and reactions take over. Neil is passionate about helping hitters improve.
To quote the great baseball flick Bull Durham “This is a very simple game. You throw the ball, you catch the ball, you hit the ball. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, sometimes it rains. Think about that for a while.”
Please don’t over complicate the game, and please remember its a game. And best said in the movie Mr. Baseball, by Jack Elliot “Baseball is a game, and games are supposed to be fun.”
The goal of MaxBP is to share fun drills and cost & time effective tools to help you become the best hitter you can be. That said, grab some old tennis balls, and cut the handle off a shovel, grab a friend and you have all the tools you need to become a great hitter.
Favorite player: Rickey Henderson, because he scored runs, could beat you with a walk followed by a stolen base and score on a single, he could beat you with a HR, or he could beat you with his glove. The greatest of all time!
